About Our Program

What age children are we able to support?

We are looking for families with children ages 6-10, preferably who have had previous experience in school.

What does the school day look like?

We offer a mix of structured class time focused around grade-level standards in Language Arts, Math, and Science, as well as experiential learning exhibitions that explore local cuisine, history, and culture. We will also work with a local language teacher in each location to provide language lessons. School hours will be Monday-Thursday from 9am-3pm, including free play and lunch. Fridays will be for group excursions and will focus on cultural immersion activities.

What is the program cost?

The fee per child is $1,250 per 4-week session. This covers the school program (teacher salary/stipend, supplies, and classroom space), as well as a community fund, to be used for class or group excursions, as funds allow. This might cover things like museum or guide fees, group transportation, etc. Flights and accommodations are the responsibility of each family. The locations have been selected partly based on their affordability and range of housing prices.

What will our living situation look like?

Families are responsible for finding their own accommodations, ideally in the same area as one another and our school location. Generally, we select a school space first, and then the group works together to find affordable options in the same area. Co-living is welcomed for those interested, but not expected nor required. When selecting locations, we prioritize those with a range of housing options, adequate internet service for remote workers, good walkability or public transportation, and that are easily accessible.

What about the adults?

A bonus of this type of program is that it allows parents to work or explore on their own while the kids are at school. But, we know the parents are here for community, too, and that is a big part of what this program is about. Our intention is to make friends, support one another, and share in the joys and challenges of family travel. We’ll get together for dinners, birthday celebrations, morning walks, runs, or yoga, co-working, coffee dates, play dates, and even trade date nights so the parents can get out on their own! Additionally, Friday excursions are meant for the whole group, and parents are encouraged to come along, if their schedules allow.

About Us

We set out on our own worldschooling journey in 2022, spending a school year living in Guatemala with our two kids. For 2023-24, we decided we wanted to do more traveling, and had signed up to join a traveling school through Latin America. To our great disappointment, the program was suddenly cancelled and we had to make other plans. We had loved the idea of a traveling school — it seemed like the perfect set-up for us. And the more we thought about it, we actually had the right skillset to run a traveling school ourselves… so, we did!

Bryson is a certified teacher, and has worked as a classroom teacher and Special Education Teacher for nearly twenty years. He has experience being a lead or specialist in classrooms K-12, and has taught all core subjects. He is an avid traveler and has visited over 60 countries. Before setting off on this journey, he was teaching in the highlands of Guatemala — and before that, Seattle, Washington.

Ashley is a project manager, and before setting out on this adventure, had been working in global health programming and research. She now handles logistical planning, coordination, and admin duties for the traveling school. She has been to 50 countries and loves exploring new places with her family… but enjoys it even more when she doesn’t have to do it alone!
